Things to do in Eton

Located in Berkshire on the opposite bank of the River Thames to Windsor, Eton is mostly known for its famous all boys school. Whilst this is a great claim to fame, the quaint and affluent town has so much more to offer visitors and locals than people often realise.

Eton has plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs to keep visitors entertained during their stay. One of the things that people like the most about Eton is that it's not full of the usual High Street chains and restaurants. Unique antique shops, family run cafes and fine dining restaurants are just some of the things that help Eton to retain its wonderful character.

Founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, Eton College is one of the oldest schools in the country and therefore attracts a lot of interest from the general public. Short guided tours can be enjoyed as this gives visitors a chance to learn the history of the school and to admire the fascinating architecture that it displays. It is important to check opening times before going however because as it is a working school community, opening times can vary.

Eton sits on Windsor's doorstep and either town can be easily reached by taking a quick stroll across Windsor Bridge. Those who prefer to stay somewhere quiet but want the option to go somewhere more lively when they feel like it, will find that Eton is perfect for them. Although it is a very tranquil town, within minutes Windsor can be accessed which opens up a whole new world.

Tourist attractions, restaurants, bars, a theatre, traditional English pubs, boat tours and bus tours can all be enjoyed when in Windsor. Then when you fancy a bit of peace and quiet again you can simply walk back over the bridge.

Eton's location makes it a great place for people to stay whether they are on business travel or on holiday. There are plenty of tourist attractions nearby such as Windsor Castle, Legoland, Thorpe Park, The Royal Landscape, boat trips around the Thames and much more. Another great thing about the town is that there is so much to explore by foot that it is impossible to get bored.
Whether you are looking for a B+B, hotel or serviced apartments, there are plenty of options when it comes to looking for accommodation in Eton which means that there is always something to suit all needs and requirements.
